Binary Choice

The feeling that something is wrong.

The night getting a bit too long.

Keeping back your cramping throat.

Humming a tone on a stressed note.

Checking your phone every once or even twice.

Forming false hopes and then paying the price.

And then slamming your head back into the pillow.

And impulsively rubbing your sweaty toes down below.

What exactly am I doing here?

And what is the reason of this strange fear?

Why is everyone okay and I am not?

And why do I keep asking 'why' and 'what?

I see, it depends on the time of the day.

It depends on where we choose to stay.

It depends on the close friends you make.

It depends on the little decisions you take.

Fear whispers its doubts in the dead of the night,

But dawn paints a future, a reason for light.

Though memories flicker, like embers that die,

New moments we'll gather, beneath a clear sky

You choose to be glad or you don't.

Don't let them oppress you and they won't.

Demand delight from your mind and it will supply.

The battle of heart and brain, it can end with a tie.

Let go of comparisons, the lives, that seem grand,

Your journey unfolds, with a unique hand.

Embrace imperfections, the stumbles, the scars,

They etch a resilience, that shines like the stars.

Unclench your tight grip, on the "what ifs" and "whys,"

For present moments hold, the key to your skies.

Breathe in the silence, the calm after storm,

Discover the strength, that lies warm.

Step out from the shadows, with courage renewed,

This night of unease is finally subdued.

Embrace the adventure, the laughter, the tears,

For happiness, my dear, conquers all your fears.

Fear may linger still, a whisper in the night,

But I'll greet the dawn, with a spirit alight.

Calming that irritating and frightened voice,

I said to myself, Happiness is a binary choice.
